Hi everyone,
I just joined today after stumbling across this site while looking for information.
I've always liked the Windrush caravan but never actually owned one. I'm thinking of buying one which I have looked at on the outside but not the inside yet. It's a 132 with the green stripe and I think it's a 1990 ish model.
I noticed on the outside the awning rails have been sealed with a silicone type sealant by the looks of it so that concerns me and also the front panel is missing the windrush decal and badge. Other than that it looks quite good on the outside and I think it would clean up nicely.
Were these vans prone to letting in water around the awning rails ?
Also, the original curtains look like they've gone but I can live with that I think.
I am going to try and arrange another viewing when the owner is home so I can get inside it and have a good look for damp.
What sort of price do these vans fetch these days ? There was one on gumtree a while back for £1250 but that was a 17 footer I think. It also looked immaculate.
Ill let you know how I get on if I do get to view it again. These vans don't seem to come up too often these days.
Matt.

Well, I went to see it this afternoon and I found soft wallboard in the bathroom and in the opposite rear corner at the back of the cupboard. The bathroom was the worst and I could smell the damp in there. Other than that it seemed fairly good but it wasn't for me I'm afraid. I did take a small damp meter but I didn't bother to get it out as the soft walls were enough evidence of damp for me.
Oh well I will have to keep looking.

Keep a lookout on Ebay you get quite a few listed throughout the year, No point in buying one with problems but having said that generally they are built well.

Hi Stuart. I don't mind a few jobs to do on a van but I don't want one that needs stripping out and walls rebuilding etc etc. I just haven't got the time for it really but I would be willing to have a go if I had the time. The one which was on Gumtree For Sale was like the one in your Avatar I think and was in Weston Super Mare. It looked really good in the photo's but the guy had already sold it . Typical as they are always sold or no good. I was gutted because I would of had that and it would have been better being that bit bigger. The guy did say it was a Rare layout for a Windrush but I don't know how true that is. I'll keep a lookout anyway, you never know. Cheers, Matt.

The layout on mine is not usual as most have the kitchen at the rear end of the van, mine has the kitchen galley mid ships and the shower room /wet room with mosiac marble floor is at the rear facing a double wardrobe that the door on the wet room closes to form a large room if needed it also has an electric flush toilet.
When I first purchased the van I was prepared to go up to £1400.00 ON eBAY but was very lucky and got it for £640.00 took of all the awning rails and roof vents completely and resealed using stainless steel screws, that was 4 years ago. its been the best van i have owned. Cheers Stuart

Hello there ladies and gentlemen. I am new to this forum and the reason for my first post being in this section is to apologise to Matt as I bought the van from WSM, and yes it's every bit as good as it looked in the photos. It is the same as Stuarts with an end washroom. I really didn't know what I was buying but I liked the van and that's what mattered. She's a 1987 15/2 S. A piece of caravan history
Cheers Chris

Hi Chris.
Don't apologise, You got yourself a nice van there, Well done. I'm very envious ! I think the chap had sold it a while before I saw the advert he just hadn't removed it from Gumtree. I really would have bought it if it is as good as it looked on the website.
I'm still looking regularly but nothing has come up yet. There's one or two older models which keep cropping up on Ebay but I prefer the sloping front models especially the ones with the green stripe.
Cheers,
Matt.

I just bought a 1987 Cotswold Celeste 13/2. I went to see it last weekend and it seemed nice and solid. I couldn't find any damp anywhere and I was looking and poking around for a good hour. I think the chap selling it probably thought, What on earth is this bloke doing ?
Anyway, I got it for a good price and it seems OK apart from being a bit dirty inside and out and the awning rail at the front needs straightening out as he caught it on a wall or something.
I'm collecting it in a few days time so I'll post some pictures when I get it back.
Has anyone successfully straightened a flattened awning rail before ? It won't accept an awning the way it is now.
anyone know to a second hand one going just in case ?
Cheers,
Matt

Thanks Stuart. Yes, it's not too bad, just trying to sort a few jobs out on it and get to know it a bit.
One job that worries me a bit are the roof lights. The sealant around the base looks a bit dried out and cracked and will probably let water in I think. Any ideas on the best way to sort that ? Remove the roof light and re seal ?
Doesn't look too big a job but I've never done one and I'd rather do it properly.
Cheers,
Matt.
