I have just bought a Windrush 13/2S but it has no gas bottle or regulator. Any advice as to which type of gas is best??
Once the gas is connected, I need to get the water heater working. It's a Carver Cascade. The couple I bought the van from said that they could hear a clicking when they tried to turn on the water heater but apparently no gas came through...again, any advice would be gratefully received!
The van is in great condition and everything else works; I paid £1,100 which seemed fair?

Marcus,
Firstly - I would highly recommend that you get some professional help to assist you with any of the gas appliances.
On an older van like yours I would only recommend Butane gas. This is usually served up in a blue bottle. A recognizable brand is Calor which I suspect is the most widely available. Naturally you will need a suitable regulator, again usually blue and these are of the push-on type.
The water heater most likely only needs a service and a clean. You say Carver but is it a Cascade1 or 2? If original it will probably be a Mk1 (large copper dome cylinder under the seat). There are also two types of wall controller as well. Lack of use contributes to the type of fault you describe but of course the system must first be charged with water before the burner will ignite.

Many thanks for your advice - I will get it serviced as you suggest.
Another short question: the electricity was working fine (except the red light on the panel doesn't light up for "socket"). However, we changed a fluroscent tube over the sink and now nothing works except the sockets! Any sugggestions??
Thanks again

If you've got a Mk2 Windrush then I think you might have the dreaded Zig PC7 distribution panel. I'm being a little unfair here because I'm sure it is a very good panel, so my comment is directed at that fact that there is almost no information available on the web for this. Unless you've got a manual or more importantly a wiring diagram you might struggle to troubleshoot it unless you know your onions The fault you describe sounds like a blown fuse in one of the light circuits. Note* none of the fuses; or switches for that matter are for mains power so the "red light" you describe will be for a 12 volt socket somewhere in the caravan. Chances are this fuse is blown too. The only mains power will be for the optional battery charger which is a separate unit and of course any mains sockets and/or lighting you may have. None of this is controlled by the distribution panel. Again - if you are unsure my advice would be to seek advice from someone who knows about these things.

Many thanks. I have discovered a sepaprate fuse box under one off the seats which appears to be connected to the 12v system and also to separate cirucuit for the sockets. The main problem was that the mains switch (also under the same seat) was turned off!
