hi just got my self a windrush 1976 4 berth . their are no plug sockets in the van. does anyone know what it does when you plug in to the mains . will it charge the battery?. many thanks It will be a 12 volt transformer under one of the bunk beds, I am surprised there's no mains electricity with it though as even vans of that era had both. You will have a facility that the transformer chargers a battery that the van will rely on for lights etc. Its not a big job however to install 240 volts but I would recommend that the works carried out by a competent electrician

I would love to help you with this but I'm afraid I can't offer any advice until I have a much better understanding on what mains installation if any you may have. Try and upload some photos or describe in detail what you have fitted. In all cases a mains install should always be professionally checked before using on a new purchase. Seriously, don't plug it in unless until you know how it ticks Regards Mark...

re Charge whilst towing If your cars trailer socket is wired up for it . it will or should do . usually there's a special relay that's either been after market wired in to your car for that purpose . these kits can be purchased from most caravan supply accessory stores or even on line direct. Most come with fitting instruction on how to install. Note Some kits are dedicated to a particular make and model and only works with the on board management system so you will need to check first before purchase. If you arnt sure take it to an Auto electrician to install You may find this link helpful www.caravanningamigos.co.uk/towbarelectrics.htmlalso www.towbarsrus.com/bar-tow-wiring.htmStu
